about

I insisted that the CD needed something sung in a Celtic language. No one could agree on which song we should work on, and this arrangement (whose form pays homage to Gordon Lightfoot's Canadian Railroad Trilogy) is the result of our indecisiveness! All three of the major Celtic languages - Irish Scottish Gaelic, and Welsh - are represented. ~ Meaghan Haughian

lyrics

Na Ceannabháin Bhána:
Goirim fhéin, goirim fhéin, goirim fhéin
Goirim fhéin Micil 's Máire
Goirim fhéin, goirim fhéin, goirim fhéin
Siúd iad na Ceannabháin Bhána

Cuirfidh mé, cuirfidh mé, cuirfidh mé
Cuirfidh mé suas chuig Sadhbh Sheáin thú
Cuirfidh mé, cuirfidh mé, cuirfidh mé

Fionnghuala:
Thuirt an gobha fuiridhidh mi
‘S thuirt an gobha falbhaidh mi
‘S thuirt an gobha leis an othail
A bh’ air an dòrus an t-sàbhail
Gu rachaidh e a shuirighe

Chorus: (x2)
‘Si eilean nam bothan nam bothan
Eilean nam bothan nam bothan
Eilean nam bothan nam bothan
Am bothan a bh’ aig Fionnghuala

Chorus (x2)

Bheirinn fead air fulmairean
Bheirinn fead air falmairean
Liuthannan beaga na mara
Bheireamaid greis air an tarrainn
Na maireadh na duirgh dhuinn

Chorus (x2)

Cha d’thuirt an dadan a’ seo
Cha d’thuirt an dadan a’ seo
Cha d’thuirt an dadan a’ seo
Bheireamaid greis air an tarrainn
Na maireadh na duirgh dhuinn

Chorus (x2)

Bheirinn fead air fulmairean
Bheirinn fead air falmairean
Liuthannan beaga na mara
Bheireamaid greis air an tarrainn
Na maireadh na duirgh dhuinn

Chorus (x2)

Cha d’thuirt an dadan a’ seo

Chorus (x2)

Ffarwel fo i Langyfelach lon:
Ffarwel fo i Langyfelach lon,
A'r merched ieuainc i gyd o'r bron;
'Rwy'n mynd i dreio pa un sydd well,
Ai'm wlad fy hun, neu'r gwledydd pell.
Ffa la la la la la, la ‘n da do

Martsio wnes i yn y blaen
Nes i mi ddod i dre' Pontfaen,
Y Fifes a'r Drums yn cario'r swn,
A listio wnes at y Light Dragoon.
Ffa la la la la la, la ‘n da do

Mi drois fy mhen ac i ryw dy;
Yr aur a'r arian oedd yno'n free,
Ac yno 'roeddent fawr eu sbort
Yn listio’r gwyd at y Duke of York.
Ffa la la la la la, la ‘n da do
Ffa la la la la la, la ‘n da do
